Economics, geopolitics part of bioammonia pitch
Menlo, Ia. - Officials at SynGest Inc. say its proposed $80 million corncob-fed bioammonia plant should be built for economic, environmental and geopolitical reasons. One argument has an almost Cold War-era feeling.
"Twenty percent of the fertilizer used in the U.S. is imported from Russia," said Ravi Randhava, the engineer who developed a "fluidized bed gasifier" that the San Francisco company wants to build near Menlo.
